A year! A year of supper club. Here’s to so many more. I feel like I’ve done everything and nothing I’ve wanted at the same time.
I don’t know about you but this year has felt like it came in swinging. I’m begging time to slow down, to give me just a little less to handle. It’s relentless though, and soon spring will come bursting through the door, and with it an abundance of flowers, and greenery. The delicate vegetables give way to sturdier flavors, radish and sweet peas followed by strawberry and asparagus. There’s such a quiet thrill seeing the tips of daffodils emerging from the ground, or soft pink buds unfolding from cherries and magnolias. My backyard becomes a carpet of violets and wild strawberries, the light filtered by the iridescent green of just-unfurled leaves, still insulated and fuzzy. The fleeting spring moments are the ones I hold closely, before summer swallows everything down into it’s heavy deep green.
I have been thinking a lot about food as ephemera. What we are investing in is good food, yes, but it’s more than that. Why do we pay for food we know will be consumed quickly and likely forgotten about after time passes. It’s the experience we’re returning for. The feeling of existing in a space dedicated to feeling good, focusing on your senses and what’s in front of you. I’m committed to that.
This dinner will mark one year of supper club, and it makes me so happy to type those words. One year of sharing food, drinks, laughter, ideas, and love. Thank you for coming along for the ride. Please come celebrate with me.
